Megan Barra
I joined Dr. Thakur’s team as a research assistant during my third year of pharmacy school. I have always had an interest in research and was ecstatic for the opportunity to engage with Dr. Thakur’s team and learn. Volunteering in the lab allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of laboratory research and medicinal chemistry while taking didactic lessons in medicinal chemistry at the same time. I was able to apply what I learned in class and test my understanding of the material on a daily basis. Additionally, I gained exposure to NMR testing, purification processes, and chemical structure modification through varying experiments. I gained invaluable tools and experiences while volunteering in the lab that I have been able to carry with me as I progressed through the pharmacy program.
